My Beautiful Kiba by Brillyent-Blondie My Beautiful Kiba by Brillyent-Blondie
Just a quick pic of the stunning miss Kiba~ if you look closely, you can see the white diamond on her gray chest! ;) She'll be getting wire added to her legs soon, if I could just bring myself to box her up and ship her!!

Kiba is my soft mount taxidermy Eastern red fox done by :iconskinnedfawxtaxidermy: here on DA

**Note: I did not kill this animal! If you don't like taxidermy, that's fine- but if that's the case, be respectful and keep your comments to yourself. Thanks!**

It is not a toy, soft mounts are used for art, photography and so on. We do NOT what so ever use them as 'toys'. We respect them just as we respect live animals.

I'm a vegetarian and very respectful of animals, but I would like to see what taxidermy has to offer. Around here I see a lot of coyotes that have been hit by cars, and they just go to waste. Many of them are in spot on condition, and are beautiful. Any suggestions? I don't really like hunting or farms, and would like to keep it strictly roadkill. But I have yet to see any good taxidermists that will perform on roadkill or naturally deceased animals.

What is it exactly? What's inside of them(as far as i know the skeleton is taken out?)

Its just the skin (and claws and nose) their are usually no bones unless you use them o help build your base for a hard mount. This video helps m.youtube.com/watch?v=MmttJ5qY854

Thank you!  You posted this exact message on another photo of mine, so I'll just reply to this one  It's nearly impossible to find these mounts cheap; you pay for quality of the pelt as well as the craftsmanship of the taxidermist!  Finding a new/high quality/minimally damaged fox mount for less than $400 is very unlikely.  That said, it is possible to find older/damaged/otherwise not-perfect mounts for a more affordable price; just keep an eye out and sometimes they show up.  I think there's one for sale up on here for $150 if you're still looking: www.deviantart.com/journal/Fox…

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog!  She was young :(

SkinnedFawx is so exceptionally talented! Your Kiba is absolutely gorgeous. I'm going to be receiving my own foxy from her this January (it's the winky one she's just posted pics of in the past few days) and she says that it's her best mount yet. I'm absolutely thrilled and honored to get to own one of her pieces. She really does breathe new life into these little guys! A true taxidermist!

One of the best (if not THE best) examples of an animal that has been taxidermised that I have ever seen. I thought this was picture of a live fox before I read the description. Does she really need wire armature in her legs? She's perfect the way she is. I've often heard that frequently touching an animal that has been taxidermied makes them loose their fur. That's why museums have "do not touch" signs all over the place if they don't have the animals behind glass.

Thank you!  I feel the same way about her, SkinnedFawx is amazingly talented and is spot on in her work
Kiba doesn't need the armature in her legs (I still haven't brought myself to mail her back out to get that installed), though it would make her look even more realistic, no doubt!  I'd like to have it done eventually

As for touching taxidermy animals and them losing their fur, you know, I never heard that!  I had always wondered why the museums had the "do not touch" signs.  Gonna google that! As for touching them, I really don't even do that too much- I take them out occasionally for pictures, and like to gently run my hands on my fur when I sit next to them sometimes.  For the most part, they just keep the couch company, lounge around and look pretty :XD: That said, I do have some OLD vintage stoles (one of them is from the 1920s- got it on ebay for 99 CENTS, can you believe it!?), and those haven't lost any of their fur despite the years of wear that they had in their prime- now they are also just decoration.  I'm told that since they are garment tanned (as opposed to traditionally dry tanned) that they hold up better to that sort of thing- Katie (MidnightWolfDesigns, she made my cross fox mount, Kai, for me) works with primarily garment tanned pelts for that reason.

Also, on that note, with traditionally mounted items, they are rigid forms, and therefor are more likely to break if they get accidentally knocked over.  With the soft mounts, the only thing you have to really worry about breaking is the head, since everything else is floppy

Anyhoo, I looked up taxidermy care and found this: taxidermyhobbyist.com/taxiderm… Apparently, skin oils transferred when touching the animal can potentially change the color of it's fur!

Some people are better at taxidermy than others. I saw a stole of some kind at the local antique store, that had multiple heads and you couldn't even tell what any of them were when they were alive. The lady who owns the store said the person she got it from didn't have any idea what it was either.

It's true!  And that stole sounds like it was less fortunate than some other taxidermy pieces :XD: Now I'm wondering what it was too! Maybe mink or pine marten or something? Who knows
